Since April 2011, the South-West University “Neofit Rilski” has been implementing as a partner organization a project named "Cross Border Implementation of Innovative Cost Cutting Technologies". The project, also known as the “CROSS-INNO-CUT” Project under its acronym in English, is financed under the European Territorial Cooperation Programme Greece-Bulgaria 2007-2013.

The project is implemented by 9 partners organizations, 3 of them from Bulgaria, and 6 of them from Greece. The project partners are as follows:

  • Federation of Industries of Northern Greece, the leading partner in the project;
  • Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece;
  • Industries’ Association of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Greece;
  • Federation of Industries of Rhodopi, Greece;
  • Union of Industry & Manufacture of Xanthi, Greece;
  • South-West University “Neofit Rilski”, Bulgaria;
  • Industrial Association – Petrich, Bulgaria;
  • Federation of Industries of Evros, Greece;
  • Industrial Association – Karjali, Bulgaria.

The main purpose of the project CROSS-INNO-CUT is to strengthen regional economic development and co-operation. The project is intended to enhance the competitiveness of the enterprises in the cross-border area of Northern Greece and Southern Bulgaria. In order to promote sustainable development, the project deals with some of the basic factors decreasing the competitiveness of the enterprises, such as excessive operational costs, inefficient resource allocation, and lack of innovations.

As a result, the project will provide Bulgarian companies with a platform for cost reduction activities consisting of problem diagnostic tools and models for different intervention areas, namely energy, utilization of raw materials and fixed assets, the quantity of goods in store, supply chain management, utilization of human resources. Along the platform, the cost reduction handbook and the training materials for cost reduction actions will be created. Moreover, the enterprises in the cross border areas will have a chance to participate in an expert audit with the advanced diagnostic tools, which is intended to identify the problems in the scope of competitiveness. Finally, concrete action plans for cost reduction will be offered to the enterprises and some pilot cases of cost reduction activities will be implemented, recorded and evaluated.
